How Face Search Works

  1. Upload a photo — portrait, ID document scan, screenshot, or any image containing a face. JPEG, PNG, and WebP are accepted. No minimum resolution required beyond an 80×80 pixel face region.
  2. The engine detects the face automatically and generates a biometric vector. The vector captures 512 facial dimensions without storing the original image.
  3. The vector is matched in milliseconds against face embeddings from extensive indexed sources — national ID scans, passport photos, voter registration images, government databases, and other verified sources across 190+ countries.
  4. Results are ranked by confidence score. Each candidate is cross-referenced against all available records to build the most complete match profile possible.
  5. Each match shows: full name, date of birth, country, identity documents, address history, phone numbers, email addresses, and the source databases where the person appears. A complete cross-referenced dossier is available with a single click.

Use Cases

Private Investigators

Identify subjects from surveillance photos, social media images, or witness-provided pictures. Instantly link a face to a name, address history, and full record spanning multiple countries and databases.

Missing Persons

Match a photo of a missing individual against national ID records, voter rolls, and government registries across 190+ countries. Cross-border searches run simultaneously with a single query.

Fraud & Romance Scam Detection

Verify that a person is who they claim to be. Detect stolen identity photos used in romance scams, loan fraud, or synthetic identity attacks by matching the photo against known identity records.

Journalist Source Verification

Verify the identity of sources, whistleblowers, or subjects of investigation from a single photo before publication. Corroborate claims with underlying records from government and civic databases.

Understanding Confidence Scores

Every face search result includes a confidence score — a biometric similarity percentage between the query photo and the indexed reference image. Scores reflect how closely the facial geometry matches, not the probability that the identification is correct. Use them as a starting point for further verification, not as conclusive proof of identity.

Score RangeInterpretationRecommended Action
> 90% Strong biometric match High-priority lead. Cross-reference with name, DOB, and document identifiers to confirm.
70 – 90% Probable match Investigative lead. Corroborate using additional identifiers before drawing conclusions.
< 70% Low-probability candidate Returned for completeness. Use only if higher-confidence results are exhausted.

Accuracy is highest for frontal portrait photos taken in good lighting. Surveillance stills, low-resolution screenshots, and partially obscured faces produce lower confidence scores and a wider result set. For ID document scans, the engine is tuned to handle compression artifacts and perspective distortion common in photographed documents.

Supported Photo Types

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is face search?

In practice, Search accuracy depends on the quality of the query photo and whether the subject appears in indexed reference photos. High-confidence matches (>90%) represent strong biometric similarity. All matches should be corroborated using additional identifiers before any action is taken.

What photo formats are accepted?

Face search accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, and BMP images up to 20 MB. The image must contain at least one detectable face of approximately 80×80 pixels or larger. Multi-face images are accepted — you can select which face to search after detection. Heavily compressed, blurred, or extremely low-light images may not yield detectable faces.

Is face search legal?
